The Audacity of Hope

I enjoyed watching the results of the Iowa caucuses come in tonight and Barak Obama's speech in particular was inspiring stuff.

I recently read Obama's book, "The Audacity of Hope" and to be honest, I found it a little dissapointing. It seemed calculatingly centrist and, for me, didn't live up to the standards of his speeches.

Its easy to be cynical about politics these days, but what if Obama is just what he looks like? An intelligent, principled and inspiring leader capable of uniting a country... wouldn't that be cool?

I tried watching it on a US satellite news channel. Apparently Britney Spears on drugs is more important news when I want to watch...

I flipped through all the US stations i have (MSNBC/FOX/Orbit/CNN US) and none of them mentioned the caucus. Out of 10 International stations I had, 7 had Obama actually on screen when i flicked through.

MSNBC had a 20 minute interview with a kid about a shark, and good morning america was a joke, something about a bakery in somewhere. Sad state of affairs.

The caucus coverage on MSNBC was quite good live. They had Chris Matthews and Keith Olberman, actually managed to be quite funny as well as informative and a pretty good panel. But by this morning it was all about the big storm today instead, which really isn't so big, but the Californianian's aren't used to it!
